Focus on the Focus

Right wing group Focus on the Family has just put up a website that proposes to help "Boys become Men" and "Girls become Women." Basically, they just want show you the warning signs that you're son or daughter (but mostly your son) may be on the road to homosezuality.

It doesn't say that he is or isn't, but that he's on the road. This is an important point that shows that Focus on the Family still believes that homosexuality is learned beavior, like eating, or breathing.

Some of the finer points read that early wanring signs inclue:

1. Reluctance to play with other boys (I thought the idea was to prevent them from playing with other boys).

2. Unwillingness to play sports. (So all you sciency types are definitely on the road to homosezuality.)

3. Being teased for being "gay" or "lesbian." Because if it comes from a bully it must be fact.

4. A tendency to be effeminate in speech, gesures, etc.

5. Likes to play with girls. (this is only okay if you intend to wed them or bed them ).

For those of you who don't know, this is pure crap. All of my gay friends, and I have quite a few, don't fall into these categories. They're men's men. Masculine, athletic, didn't like to do "girlie" stuff. In fact, no one realizes they are gay until they tell someone.

Yes there are gays that act like girls. Those that have feminine tendincies. But that's just one group. One of many.

I knew this one guy. He was the captain of the football team. He played lots of sports, was well liked by his classmates, and dated the school cheerleader. He's gay. He says that he was always like that. Just covering it up so his teammates wouldn't kill him. Who's the one with the problem there?

He's in the Gay Rodeo in case you were wondering. Yes there is such a thing. Remarkably butch no?

What is really remarkable about the site is it's ommission of lesbianic tendencies. Not one of those points of logic even mentions women. Except to say that boys shouldn't be like them. It seems to revolve soley around boys. What's the word for someone who has an obession about the sexuality of underage males? I forget, but I imagine it's not well looked upon. The person how wrote that website should start looking at shrinks.

Another thing, If you take all of the "qualifications" on that site and try to apply that to every one in the gay community you'd probably find that 80 percent of it just doesn't fit. You'd find that just as many straight people fall into those categories as gay. And what about all the straight people who liked to play with barbie's and straight girls who liked to play baseball. Just anomalies, to be sure. Right.

Sciency people have a word for theories that don't correlate to experimental or observed data. How much do you want to bet that Focus on the Family based all of those facts on a bunch of stereotypes? Could I do a study to find out? Sure. But I'd be wasting my time.

So here's to Focus on the Family. May your intolerance and bogtry be the end of your organization. Those of you who just want to laugh at this remarkably stupid site. Check out the link below.
